Brett Wilkin Shares His Challenging Mass-Building Workout Finishers
2024 IFBB Legion Pro winner, and 2025 Mr. Olympia finalist Brett Wilkin is the kind of bodybuilder who leaves it all in the gym. And, in a recent Instagram post, the big man shared the upper and lower body finishers that test his mettle as he looks to pack on even more muscle.
Of course, the aim of any competitive bodybuilder is force their muscle fibers to grow back bigger after being put into a state of hypertrophy from an exhaustive workout, and Wilkin thinks he has found two winning finishers for leveling up his upper and lower body—alternating between supersets and dropsets to approach failure.
Here’s how to try both sequences for yourself.
Bret Wilkin’s Upper-Body Superset Finisher
“Some standing cable flys to failure and straight to the landmine presses,” explained Wilkin to his more than 170,000 Instagram followers. “Stretching it out big to start, then pumping out the inner and upper chest for complete balance. Keeping it simple and effective.”
In the spirit of the superset, Wilkin, who is known to fans as “The Butcher,” takes no rest between the cable fly and landmine press, going big before he goes home. This is a wise combination because the fly hits the shoulders, upper and lower pecs, and even the biceps to some degree, while the landmine two handed chest press has similar coverage but draws upon the triceps more than the biceps.
Brett Wilkin’s Upper and Lower Body Finisher Breakdown
When it comes to leveraging his lower body, Wilkin opts for drop sets. “Fun fact: Dropsets pair as character builders… and some of y’all out there are lacking character” taunted the man mountain in another recent post.
Setting himself up on the hack squat, Wilkin notes that he rarely observes other gym goers practicing drop sets but explains that they are a go-to for finishing his leg day.
To round out his lower body sessions, the competitive bodybuilder sits low into the hack squat in order to stretch and build his hamstrings and quads. He takes just enough rest time for some plates to be removed before he pounds his pins once again. And, as he works towards failure, Wilkin breathes deeply as he powers through the final moments, readying his legs for even more mass in the future.
“Not just a drop, but tempo work too,” spotted one eagle eyed follower. “Crazy,” wrote another impressed fan. “Big man doing big things!” added yet another.
